Overview:
There are two types: Gross Hematuria and Microscopic Hematuria. Gross Hematuria is blood in the urine that is visible to the naked eye. Microscopic Hematuria is detected through a urinalysis using a microscope.
Symptoms:
- Blood in the urine
- Fever, if infection is present
- Pain in the abdomen or flank
- Often no symptoms
Possible Diagnostic Tests:
- Urine Dip: A test done in the offie to see certain chemicals in the urine.
- Urinalysis: A more in depth test of the urine using a microscope.
- Cystoscopy: Looking into the bladder and urethra using a small fiber optic instrument, called a cystoscope.
- CT Urogram: A CT scan of the kidneys, bladder, and ureters.
